Checking in…

It’s Monday, it’s raining, it’s a good time to jot down a few thoughts. ;-)

Last week, a group of us from The GBC went to Anderson, SC to Newspring Church for a one day conference called “Unleashed”. This was the second time I’ve been and to be honest, I wasn’t really looking forward to it even though last time was awesome. I’m so happy that I went. God used it. Mos def did He use it. I was challenged/encouraged by Perry Nobel‘s sessions and really enjoyed “the hang” in the van with GBC crew. If I can sum up one overall thought that I took away from the conference is this: Is your church operating a rescue mission?..or a museum preservation? Perry used a killer analogy with the Chilean miner rescue that happened last year. Rather than try to explain it, I will be posting the video when it becomes available. I don’t believe my description will do it justice.

Separation of the sheep and the goats.

You can sit in a sermon and get all the “information” you’ll ever need…but what we really need is “transformation”..THAT is the Gospel.

Shifting gears, last week Sara Evans’ cd hit the stores and is slated to debut in the top 10 on Billboard. The first 100,000 copies have an insert card that I did for Thomas Nelson Publishers. I tend to do web based design so this was one of my first big print jobs. I worked with the great team at TNel as well as the art dept of Sony Music to make this happen. I still trip about what I get to be involved in working from my home in the middle of nowhere.

Our church is once again holding our Easter service at the local high school auditorium. Andy Akins made a killer Billboard graphic. I used that as a jump to build a facebook app. See it here. Why have our service outside of our own building? Easy. It’s part of the “rescue operation” focus we have.

Rob Bell seems to have struck a nerve. His new book “Love Wins” (my favorite phrase) hits stores next week and I will be good for one copy of it.

Seriously folks, do everything you do for an audience of one. Don’t have a church life and another life. One life.

Love Wins!
