Glamnation…

I have pretty eclectic taste in music. I enjoy mass-appeal pop, artsy indie noise, electronic metal, pretty much anything…well, not much for Country. Lately though, I’ve had a renewed interest in 80′s styled hard rock. I’ve gotten a little bored though with the “classics”..I need some new music. Fortunately, I have discovered a scene in Scandinavia and other parts of Europe that are breeding new bands that sound like they stepped off L.A.’s Sunset Strip in 1986. I’ve been mildly aware of the “scene” for awhile, but wrote it off..til this past week. Melodic in nature, hard enough to make you move in your seat, and often dumb, but light hearted lyrical themes. It’s a wonderful mess. I don’t hate modern music at all, but I am a bit disinterested in what I see coming up. I hear the effects of people playing hours of guitar hero instead of locking themselves in a room playing guitar for 6-10 hours a day like they used to. The metal bands seem to have no sense of humor or if they do, they don’t let it come through in the songs. You can grab a torrent of most anything these days…but the masses don’t seem to even want it when it’s free.
The following are some bands worth checking out if you have had your fill of psuedo-angst filled kiddies who bought their fashions at Hot Topic ;-)

Reckless Love
CrashDiet
Hardcore Superstar

And a few from the past making new music that you haven’t heard enough to be sick of:

Stryper
Vain
Tigertailz
Motley Crue
