Video killed the radio star…

I got a notification on facebook that I had been mentioned in a comment on a Guardian video. Those videos where someone takes one of our songs and just uses the album cover as the background. I’ve seen these clips before and was impressed that 100,000+ people had viewed a couple of them. But today, I noticed one that blew my mind. It’s Nunca Te Dire Adios – the Spanish version of Never Say Goodbye.

Nunca Te Dire Adios – 1,056,100

A million views. Maybe nothing compared to Lady GaGa or something, but pretty freaking cool to me. This was the song I included on my audition tape for Guardian. We reworked it for the Fire & Love record and 20 years later, here we are.

Interestingly, the English version video (which the band has always hated) has 109,827 views.

Some other counts I noticed:
Te Veo En El Cielo: 612,813 views
Sabes que es amor: 484,251 views
Si A Mi Lado Tu Estas: 216,410 views
COMO EL SOL: 214,340 views

Needless to say, this made me happy this afternoon. From an artist perspective, it’s cool that people still care about your contributions years later. I hope the next round of songs will connect too!

Happy Saturday-

Awesome! I don’t know how to say this in English… “Me sentí tan pequeño al oir la letra de Nunca te diré adios que deplano impacto mi vida” It seemed as if it was GOD HIMSELF through Jamie’s voice and the Band’s rythm who was sending the message! Though is not my very favorite song as “Guardian – Swing Swang Swung – Your Love” I can say that is one of my 10 favorite songs from Guardian!

    Hey, Jamie!

I will do justice to your blog and reply here this time instead of e-mailing you as usual.

I have been noticing those growing figures on Youtube, especially on the Spanish versions. I must say Guardian are still in people’s hearts in Latin America, based on those numbers, on the amount of Spanish speaking people who write on Guardian’s FB wall and on comments of people around or new acquaintances.

A couple of years ago, I took a sound tech course with Koke Wiedmaier, the bloke at the mixing board when you toured South America in the mid 90s. I asked him if he had any recordings of those shows. He played some bits he had saved on his laptop. As soon as other people around heard Guardian, they surrounded us and started asking if you were still around. They were very enthusiastic about the band’s music and ministry, talked about your music and wished for the band to record more new material and tour soon again. I really hope you can meet the deadlines you set to yourselves recently! My personal wish is not only for new material, but also for English versions of the Dime album songs.

I usually meet people who are very fond of your music, who comment about the impact of your words and music in their lives. Some of them say similar things to those Gerardo told you in Spanish. Btw, I’ll try to give him a helping hand here trying to convey his message in English: “I felt so overwhelmed, so little, the first time I heard “Nunca Te Diré Adiós” because it made an impact on my life right away”.
In my case, the one song that always brings me closer to God’s love and majesty is “Let The Whole World”; it also touches me in its Spanish version “Que El Mundo De Su Gloria Llene”. I have got to agree with Gerardo again about “Your Love”. I can’t tell you how many times I have cried praising the Lord with that song.
